Are You Conditioning Your Organization?

As I watched my son go through a basketball clinic this week I was again reminded of what it takes to be the best. The coaches encouraged the youth in the room to stay focused on conditioning, especially in the off season. Conditioning is a daunting task for organizations because most don't have an off season. Therefore, you need to be more deliberate in planning these sessions. Even during the season the athlete is continuing their conditioning program.

So why do we need to condition in organizations? Organizations in many ways are like an athlete. Organizations are competing every day. The marketplace is changing all the time. Organizations need to be flexible and adaptable. The best way to do this is to have a well conditioned organization.

How do you condition your organization? Conditioning consists of training, auditing, and problem solving. Training needs to be on going and focused. Don't just provide a training to say you are providing training. Have a purpose for the training and hold individuals accountable not only for taking the class but also using the information after the workshop. Audit all facets of the organization. Find the frustrations and problem spots that are getting in the way of the success of your employees. Audit your employees, yes I mean performance management. Are they performing to your expectations? Finally have a structured process for problem solving. This will get everyone involved and focused on improving their work processes.
